It was not too long ago that Nigel Lythgoe dispelled Idol judge rumors. I think that successfully made Idol speculations silent for a while. But now, Idol updates are sprouting once more!
1. Kara Dio Guardi is out.
The Associated Press reports that Kara is following Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell by making her exit out of American Idol. Her statement was issued by Fox, but it did not elaborate her reasons for leaving. Her contract reportedly had a one-year option remaining that the network could have exercised. She was previously rumored to leave (or some rumors claim was getting the boot).
"I felt like I won the lottery when I joined 'American Idol' two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave 'Idol,'" Kara said in a statement.
This makes Randy Jackson the sole original judge remaining. And for this, word is going round that the front-runners for the judges panel are Stephen Tyler and...
2... Jennifer Lopez!!!
Last month, Nigel Lythgoe did state that much of what was being written about Idol judges was "baloney," and even downplayed reports that J.Lo was taken out of consideration for diva-like behavior. Lythgoe cautions that it is too early in the process to believe whatever is being said about the topic.
Now, according to TMZ, "Idol" producers consider J.Lo as one of the best mentors of the program and that she may be able to re-energize the show. This makes her more likely to closing a deal with Idol, possibly as early as next week...or so people with knowledge of the negotiations say.
Sometimes, it doesn't take a real singer to make a good judge. Simon doesn't sing, but he knows the record industry. Kara can sing, but for some reason, she can't please everyone with her critiques. Much can be said about J.Lo's singing. As a consolation, she is a better dancer than a singer, like Paula Abdul. If the Idol producers see her as an effective mentor (she was in 2007), then maybe she can be a good judge. Moreoever, it is about chemistry between fellow judges. You can be the best judge but you've got to gel with the others well.
J.Lo, I think The Back-Up Plan was too corny. I'm hoping your judging won't be.
